Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Trailer Teases All-Out War

Until yesterday’s official reveal of a new type of Stormtrooper, Disney and Lucasfilm had only released one official photo (and the logo) for their first Star Wars spinoff movie which began shooting back in August of 2015. Originally announced and branded as the first of Lucasfilm’s standalone “Anthology” films that would fill the release schedule gaps between episodic installments in the main Star Wars saga, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was also briefly teased at last year’s Star Wars Celebration and D23 events with concept art and vague details – but the secrecy ends today.

Disney is now going all-out in promoting their late 2016 tentpole releases and kickstarting the marketing campaigns for Marvel’s Doctor Strange and Lucasfilm’s Rogue One over the next week. And for the galaxy far, far away, it began this morning with the first teaser trailer for Rogue One airing during Good Morning America on ABC (see the video below).

The timing of the first Star Wars: Rogue One teaser trailer – which has been trending on social media ever since the announcement of the trailer debut – comes the same week as the home video release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and just a week before Disney’s The Jungle Book opens in theaters. Smart! It’s also the same week Captain America: Civil War begins screening and has its world premiere, so expect the new trailers to come attached to Disney’s other tentpoles in theaters.

Our only details on Rogue One characters prior to now came from rumors and reports, and the few words director Gareth Edwards (Godzilla 2014) has been allowed to speak at the aforementioned official presentations at Disney events. But now we get to see some of the Rebel heroes led by Felicity Jones in action, as the young Rebel Alliance plans a heist to steal the Death Star plans – before the Galactic Empire can put it to use.
